Is there any advantage to supplying water to both sides of the suction head as opposed to supplying water to only one end as done on a rental unit from nlb?  what are the advantages and disadvantages of each way

One of the keys to the operation of NLB’s pumps is having smooth flowing inlet water, at as high of pressure as you can reasonably get.  Our intake manifolds are designed to ensure that, if fed from one side with a sufficient supply of clean water, there will be minimal pressure drop and turbulence.

It is worth pointing out that there are significant advantages to flowing in both sides of the inlet manifold, including reduced pressure drop, less turbulence in the inlet, more uniform valve wear, smaller and lower cost inlet piping, and lower NPSHR (net positive suction head requirements.)

I hope this answers your question.  This is a popular topic in the water jetting industry.  In fact, NLB will be doing a presentation on this subject at the WJTA show, Aug 19-21, in Houston.

Please contact me at NLB's headquarters in Michigan if you have additional questions.  I can be reached toll free at (800) 227-7652.
